The Last Kind Words” es el tercer álbum de estudio de DevilDriver. El nuevo disco de los californianos salio a la venta el 19 de junio en el Reino Unido y el 31 de julio en los Estados Unidos, pero yo lo baje mucho antes que saliera a la venta, ja ja. Además, la versión americana también incluye un bonus track y un póster. La banda californiana se ha dado a conocer por su estilo de death-metal con influencias del groove. “The Last Kind Words” esta producido por Roadrunner Records.

Banda ponchada, chingona, desmadra oidos, la neta me sorprendio Dez Fafara con esta banda, crei que todo habia valido madre cuando dejo coal chamber pero madres! Con este proyecto a dado un nuevo aporte a la comunidad del buen metal.

DevilDriver es el nombre que dan las brujas a las campanas que utilizan para alejar el mal cuando realizan sus hechizos. Pero el DevilDriver del que hablamos es una banda. DevilDriver no es la primera banda de Dez Fafara. De hecho, el cantante ha estado trabajando duro desde las trincheras de la industria musical desde 1994, habiendo vendido más de un millón de discos en todo el mundo, apareciendo en nueve bandas sonoras y pasando incontables años de carretera actuando en cientos de conciertos.
DevilDriver, completado por los guitarristas Evan y Jeff, el bajista John y el batería Johnny B, se concibió en 2001, durante el proceso de grabación de “Dark days”, el tercer álbum del otro proyecto de Fafara, Coal Chamber. Fafara quería añadir gordura y peso a su producción musical durante algún tiempo. Había estado pensando en moverse hacia una dirección más fresca y metálica cuando finalmente DevilDriver llegó a realizarse.
Fafara llamó a Evan y el guitarrista fue a su casa, y la pareja se hicieron buenos amigos. El resto de DevilDriver fue reunido de una manera orgánica: robándolos a otras bandas de la ciudad. Las cosas funcionaron, y la banda, en su estado embrionario, pasó alrededor de un año pasando el rato y conociéndose mejor unos a otros. Fafara sabía que en cuanto terminara de girar con su otra banda dedicaría toda su energía a DevilDriver.
“DevilDriver” incluye doce canciones y fue grabado en dos estudios distintos con dos productores distintos. Las baterías y las principales guitarras se grabaron con Ross Hogarth en Rumbo, donde se hizo un disquillo llamado “Appetite for destruction”. Las voces, overdubs y pistas de bajo se grabaron con Dan Serta en Castle Oaks. Para todos los implicados fue una experiencia positiva.
Fafara admite que las influencias de black, death y heavy metal clásico han vuelto a levantar la cabeza en “DevilDriver”, y no compara a sus músicos con nadie que haya oído antes. En esencia, DevilDriver ha creado su propio estilo rabia, oscuridad y furia.
